Gluten Free in Madrid

Madrid has officially stolen my gluten-free heart. Out of everywhere I’ve travelled, it’s the best city I’ve been to so far for food – hands down. Not just because there’s so much choice, but because it’s good choice: proper flavour, amazing quality, and so many places where you can relax knowing everything on the menu is safe. From cosy bakeries to late-night churros, from creative tapas to world-class pizza, eating gluten-free here doesn’t feel like missing out – it feels like they city was made for you!

A wee note on this blog post:

This is by no means an extensive list of all the gluten free places in Madrid, I think I'd need about 6 months to get around all the places thoroughly. These are just the places I went to and loved!
I would highly recommend following a Madrid based gluten free content creator online to see more of what the city has to offer!

Okashi Sanda

This cosy Japanese restaurant is a dream for anyone with food restriction - everything is 100% gluten- and lactose-free, with plenty of vegan options. They do proper comfort dishes like ramen, gyoza, teriyaki, tonkatsu, okonomiyaki,  plus some incredible desserts that sadly we didn't get round to. It’s colourful, friendly, and one of those places where you leave feeling looked after.

Two Locations: Lavapies & Malasaña

Booking required: It's recommended

100% Gluten Free, 100% Lactose Free, Vegan Options

Recommendation: Gyoza!

LaLina

LaLina is a fabulous Tapas restaurant with two locations in Madrid. It’s completely gluten-free, so you can relax and order anything, from their famous patatas bravas (they do more than ten different versions!) to creative tapas you won’t find elsewhere. The service is wonderful, and they also have some fantastic drinks. I recommend trying the Tinto de Verano - it's the new, fun version of Sangria

Two Locations: La Latina & Chueca

Booking required: It's recommended

100% Gluten Free, Vegan Options

Recommendation: Kimchi Mayo Patatas Bravas

Solo De Croquetas

As the name suggests, it’s croquetas or nothing — but they’ve gone wild with it. There are over 30 flavours of croquetas, from classic jamón to paella, cheesecake, and even pet-friendly ones. The tasting menu is the way to go, because trying to pick just one is impossible. They also did our favourite Aperol Spritz of the trip here!

Senza Glutine di Grosso Napoletano

A chain of 100% gluten-free Neapolitan pizzerias around Madrid where the dough is made with rice, corn, and buckwheat, double-fermented for 48 hours, and baked in a wood-fired oven. This was my mum's favourite spot of the trip - the Pizza's are unreal, and unlike any gluten free ones you've tasted before. This was the only place we went to twice! Please note, they do have other Grosso Napoletano restaurants that aren't gluten free so make sure you visit at Senza Glutine one!

Multiple locations

Booking required: Bookines & walk-in's are ok

Recommendation: Margarita

Naked & Sated

This chain is ccompletely gluten free, and it's the perfect spot for breakfast, brunch, or lunch if you're out on the go. They have all your favourite comfort foods, but reworked so they don’t leave you in a food coma. The pizzas have quinoa bases, the waffles are made from potatoes, and even the pasta is a lighter, konjac version. They also do some incredble galettes, coffees, and pancakes!

Churrería Chocolateria 1902

Old-school Madrid charm with over a century of churros, porras, and molten chocolate. The twist? They’ve got gluten-free, vegan, and lactose-free options, so no one misses out. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to order “just one more” until you realise you’ve had five. They make the gluten free ones separately, and serve them on black plates so you know which ones are yours!

C. de San Martín, 2, Centro, 28013 Madrid, Spain

La Oriental Sin Gluten

This fully gluten-free Madrid bakery was the number 1 place I was recommended to visit and it’s stacked with traditional Spanish pastries, breads, and cakes. You can grab everything from croissants and napolitanas to empanadas and celebratory tarts, all freshly made and ready to take away. They have a cafe next door that is also gluten free now (I believe this used to be a gluten version of their bakery but now seems to be gluten free as well!)

C. de Ferraz, 47, Moncloa - Aravaca, 28008 Madrid

Good for: Pastries, traditional Spanish bakes, coffee

100% Gluten Free, dairy free options

A bright, modern bakery that’s 100% gluten-free and leans into colourful, fun creations. They do cinnamon rolls in different flavours, doughnuts, brownies, layer cakes, and plenty of seasonal specials. There's also lots of packaged items, so a good place to visit for a few things to take away.

C/ del Alcalde Sainz de Baranda, 18, Retiro, 28009 Madrid, Spain

A central, all-day bakery café where everything is gluten-free. The menu runs from pastries and cakes to sandwiches, salads, and smoothies, with plenty of vegan and dairy-free choices too. You can pop in for breakfast, lunch, or just a slice of cake and coffee. Due to time constraints I couldn't get anything from this spot - so let me know whats good here!
